If you are born again (John 3), you are a spirit, you have a soul, and you live in a body. As sons and daughters of God, it is our responsibility to care for the temple of the Holy Spirit and “honor our bodies” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).

God has already provided everything we need in nature to live a healthy life, including the sun. Vitamin D3, scientifically proven to be one of the most essential hormones for our bodies (yes, it’s a hormone!), plays a crucial role in many physiological processes. However, despite its importance, most people suffer from vitamin D deficiency. Because of this, it’s often necessary to take vitamin D3 supplements to experience its full benefits—though nothing compares to the health benefits of natural sunlight.

On this page, we will provide specific recommendations for vitamin D3 intake, particularly if you’re starting to experience flu-like symptoms.

Recommended dosage

If the family/person has symptoms of the flu or COVID and has never taken vitamin D3, consider taking double the following amounts for the first 2 days:

Until the symptoms go away, we recommend:

Adults: For every 1kg of body weight, you need to take 400 IU per day. Example: I weigh 55kg, so I need to take 22,000 IU of vitamin D3 per day.

Children from 1 to 6 years old: take 25 IU for each kg they weigh, per day.

Children from 7 to 12 years old: take 50 IU for each kg they weigh, per day.

(Don’t give vitamin D3 to babies under 1 year old. Children typically have a stronger immune system, so it’s not as necessary to give vitamin D3 to children under 10 years old.)

Pre-teens (up to 15 years old): 150 IU for each kg they weigh.

Notes:

Note 1: Take it with a meal that contains fat. Preferably the first meal of the day.

Note 2: Always take vitamin D3 with vitamin K2.

Vitamin K2: 50mcg-100mcg per capsule per day (If they don’t make 100mcg, ask for the highest they make per capsule).

Everyone in the family: Take 1 vitamin K2 per day.

Once the symptoms pass, each member should take 50 IU of vitamin D3 per kg they weigh. Also, 1 vitamin K2 every two or three days.

Note 3: Regarding vitamin D3, if experiencing lung problems, you can double the dosage for up to 2 weeks. Remember, vitamin K2 should always continue to be taken if you’re taking D3.

Note 4: It’s also important to take magnesium if you’re taking D3. Magnesium: at least 10mg per kg of body weight. The best magnesium, in this case, is magnesium glycinate.

Other good vitamins to boost the immune system:

  • 40mg of Vitamin C per kg, at a minimum.
  • Zinc.
  • Selenium: found in Brazil nuts. Don’t eat more than 2 per day.

Eating plenty of vegetables and greens is also important for body protection.
